Granite pounced on her. She laughed at her older brother and pushed him off. Suddenly, Granite got up. " Get up, Leaf!" Granite muttered. " I smell something."
Leaf, still laughing, got up. " Do you smell a mouse? A squirrel? I knd of smell a vole, lets go get one!" She swatted the air.
"No. I smell..." He snniffed. "Badger." He looked scared. "Where is our mother?"
Just then, Puff, the two kits mother, rushed torward them. She picked up Leaf and told Granite to follow her.
A badger roared torward them. It picked up Granite and shook him. He yelled to the other two cats to keep going, but Puff knocked him out of the badgers mouth. They ran as more badgers came. Puff had no choice and told her kits to run. She started fighting the badgers off. Granite and Leaf jumped in to help. Puff tried to get them away, but Granite was picked up and carried away. Leaf screeched at the lost of her brother and tried to jump on the badger that took him, but Puff held him back. There were too many. Puff needed to get Granite back and return both her kits to safety. She let go of Leaf and told her to run to the old sycamore tree. Puff hurled herself into battle and ran to her older son, who's little voice could barely be heard. Leaf ran to the sycamore tree den and waited all night. It started to rain, and she toddled out of the den. Puff never returned. She wandered to the forest and met a cat, brown and black tom, who reminded her of Granite. The tom introduced her to the clans, and she joined Thunderclan. She was named Leafkit, but after only several days leter did she recieve her apprentice name, Leafpaw. Leafpaw felt she was teased by other cats for not being Clanborn, and turned into a rough cat for anyone who did question her loyalty. She was a great hunter, until the accident with the fox, she was blinded in one eye...
Leafpaw jolted up from her sleep. Her earliest memories were frightful ones. She needed a friend to tell. Anyone, a kit, an apprentice, a warrior, a medicine cat, a deputy, even a leader. She sighed. She was sure no one in the clans would trust a former loner. But was she? Maybe cats don't have to be clan born.
