Emberflare gasped in pain as another grip of pain filled her body. She lay hidden near Twolegplace in a big bush. She hadn't seen Bloodfire in ages and she was starting to think he had forgotten about her.
His love was fake. I should've seen it in his eyes, she mourned to herself. He was a smooth lier.
And now she was having his kits without him there to comfort her. She mewed as a jolt of pain raged her heart. She felt compelled to scream but she didn't want to attract attention.
Her vision and everything just slipped her attention. When she came to, two tiny bundles lay beside her, nursing gently. A short-haired orange tom with darker marbled spots and white markings white cuddled her stomach. A fluffy black/brown she-cat with a white chest and paws nursed beside him.
But I can't keep them. I know that. But she wasn't about to kill them either. She had an idea.
When the kittens had finished, she slowly stood and grasped their scruffs. They mewled helplessly before getting used to her soft jaws. She trotted through the underbrush towards a long stone fence. She leaped up, careful not to hurt the kits, then jumped down on the other side.
A black tom and a white she-cat with red spots emerged from under a tree. They sniffed the kits and nodded.
"It must be so hard." Whispered the she-cat.
Emberflare set her kittens on the ground. "Yes," she whispered weakly.
The the two kittypets led Emberflare to the tree. Under it, in a nest of sodt moss, lay three newborn kittens. The she-cat stared lovingly at her own kits.
"Your kits will fit in perfectly. Our owner won't expect a thing."
Emberflare nodded dumbly as sadness gripped her heart. It was harder tan ever for her to say good bye to her loves.
The black tom touched her shoulder with the tip of his tail.
"We'll make sure they know who you are."
"And you can visit them everyday." The she-cat added.
"That would be nice." Emberflare smiled. "Thank you so much."
"We were happy to help." The spotted she-cat pressed her nose against Ember's cheek.
Ember nodded and turned. At the top of the wall, she turned to gaze her last that night on her kittens. Then she leaped into the bushes on the other side and disappeared.

Emberflare chewed the herb slowly, trying to push her hollow sadness away. Tears threatened to spill. She swallowed it as a single tear slid down her cheek and alighted on a fern. The herb would make her milk flow stop.
Ember crawled into the warriors den and lay down in her nest, crying softly to herself. Her life was hard. As an apprentice she had been confused, as a warrior she had been abused.
As pain echoed in her heart, she softly cried herself to sleep.
Cedar is the orange tabby and Rain is the blue tortoiseshell, my kits.
