nobody knows who i really am
i never felt this empty before
and if i ever need someone to come along
who's gonna comfort me and keep me strong
She stood at the edges of the river, front paws engulfed by cold water, the river splitting in wake of her immobile legs. Her back paws were not submerged in the water, instead resting further back on the muddy bank of the river. The paws rested lightly on the ground, the she-cats weight balanced and centered, her feet unencumbered and ready to spring forth at a moments notice, if needed.
It had rained last night, and the ground was still soggy, sagging underneath her steps, the mud squelching unpleasantly and oozing its way through her toes. She would groom them later, but not now. Now was reserved for tranquility, peace and calm, some would say, though that would be a lie. It was not peaceful, this tranquility. No, it was a raging and terrifying calm, deceptive. For she wasn't thinking of clear sunny skies and fluffy white clouds: she was thinking of a storm, a raging, roaring whirl of wind and rain, lightning splitting the sky asunder as thunder trembled through the air. Something quite similar to the storm that had blown in and out the night before.
It was an metaphorical storm, of course, one used to describe the warrior's state of being. She was remembering days gone by, something she was prone to doing from time to time, despite the barriers she had erected to block all flowage in and out. And it was depressing her, holding her paralyzed save for a slight twitching of her glossy tail, her hunting mission forgotten.
We are all rowing the boat of fate
The waves keep on comin' and we can't escape
But if we ever get lost on our way
The waves would guide you through another day
